Our birds spend their mornings roaming our ranch overlooking Colorado's North Fork Valley and then like to hang out in the turkey tractor in the afternoons.
We only feed locally sourced, Non-GMO feed to our Royal Palm, Blue Slate, Bourbon Red and Sweetgrass Turkeys.
"A heritage turkey is one of a dozen or so old varieties of turkey as listed by the Livestock Conservancy-an organization dedicated to protecting endangered livestock and poultry breeds from extinction-with a slow-growth rate, the capacity to live a long outdoor life, and the ability to breed and reproduce. " - Fine Cooking Magazine Oct/Nov 2015
Since heritage turkeys grow much slower than those raised for the mass-market, they develop a denser, richer-tasting meat that has a finer-texture and more dark meat. They are generally smaller than supermarket turkeys. Our turkeys will "dress out" between 10 and 15 pounds. They are more elongated with drumsticks that are a good 1 to 2 inches longer than what you would find at the supermarket.
Balcony Birds turkeys cost $6 per pound. Because we are a small farm and rely on pre-orders for our turkeys, we ask that each order is confirmed with a $25 deposit.
